I told my boss at the Denver job site that his 'safety shortcut' was a bad idea right before a pipe fitting blew out.
We were tightening a 2-inch line without the proper clamp, and when it popped loose and sprayed coolant everywhere, I shut the main valve and said we needed to do it right or I was calling the safety office, which got us the right gear but also a serious talk later. Has anyone else had to stand up to a supervisor on site over something that was clearly wrong?

How many times does a boss need to see someone get hurt before they listen? You did the only thing you could, even if it meant trouble later. It's wild that they'd rather risk a huge mess or an injury than just get the right tool. That talk you got probably saved the next guy from a real bad day.

Had a buddy who worked in a warehouse. They kept using a busted pallet jack that would stick and jolt. Told the boss like four times. One day it slammed his hand against a rack and broke two fingers. Boss finally ordered a new one that week. Said it was too expensive to replace. Yeah, now he can't work for two months and they're paying his medical bills plus a temp. Real smart.

Man, they'd rather pay for a funeral than a new wrench.
