My ancient coffee maker finally died on me mid-pour this morning
It was a $20 Mr. Coffee I got from a garage sale in Cleveland back in 2012, and it started hissing smoke before dumping grounds all over the counter, so I tossed it and drove to Target to find a replacement but nothing felt right.

Oh man, I used to be all about fancy coffee makers with timers and built-in grinders and all that. Thought I needed all the bells and whistles to get a good cup. But then my expensive one broke after two years and I borrowed my neighbor's old $25 Mr. Coffee while I figured out what to buy next. That thing made the best coffee I'd had in years, no joke. Really made me realize I was overcomplicating stuff. Your garage sale Mr. Coffee sounds like it had a good run, take this with a grain of salt but maybe you just need another simple one.

I used to think the same way. Had to learn it the hard way too.

Used to be a total gear snob myself. Thought a fancy machine was the only way to get a good brew. Then my shiny espresso machine crapped out after a year. Dug out my mom's old percolator from the back of the cupboard. Ugly plastic thing but it made coffee that hit different. Totally changed my mind about all that expensive stuff.
