Rant: I tried being totally open in a client meeting and it backfired hard

I told a regular client their new logo concept looked dated, like something from a 2008 WordArt tutorial. They canceled the project the next day. Has anyone else been burned for giving the honest feedback they asked for?

Ugh, you gotta sugarcoat it even when they ask for the truth.

The best truth is just delivered without the extra coating.

Sugarcoating the truth is like putting sprinkles on broccoli and calling it dessert. My aunt asked if her new haircut looked good, and I told her it had "personality." Should have just said it looked like a startled poodle. Now she's mad I lied, and she's stuck with bad hair for months. Why do we do this to each other?
