Spent $250 on a 'life coach' and it was the worst money I ever wasted

I paid for a six session package because I felt stuck in my job. The coach just asked vague questions and sent me links to free articles I'd already read. After the third call, I realized I was just paying someone to repeat my own problems back to me. The whole thing felt like a $250 therapy session from someone with no real training. Has anyone else tried something like this and actually gotten real, practical advice that helped?

Isn't the real problem that we're paying for a friend? A good friend would listen and maybe point you to a free article, but they wouldn't charge you for it. These services sell the idea of a shortcut when most real change just takes boring, slow work. Maybe we're all just lonely and want someone to check in on our goals.

What if you're paying for the right questions?

That's a really good point about friends, but sometimes you need more than a chat. A good coach or service can ask the hard questions you avoid. Like if you're stuck in a bad job, a friend might just listen, but a paid pro can push you to actually update your resume or apply somewhere. It's not about a shortcut, it's about structure when you're too deep in your own head to see the next step.
