Spent 6 hours tracking down a water leak that was right in front of me the whole time
I woke up to a damp spot on my basement floor last Tuesday and figured I'd have it fixed in an hour. Three trips to the hardware store later, I was tearing open my drywall and checking pipes that were perfectly fine. Turned out the leak was coming from a tiny crack in the washing machine supply hose behind the machine. I had walked past it a dozen times because I was so focused on the floor drain. That small fix cost me $12 and about 15 minutes to replace the hose. But the time wasted? A solid 6 hours of frustration, including cleaning up the mess I made cutting into the wall. Has anyone else spent way too long looking for a simple fix that was sitting right in plain sight?

Always thought I was too sharp to make that mistake until I did the exact same thing last month.

Isn't it funny how the ego works overtime to convince us we're above the same mistakes everyone else makes? Guess that's just life's way of reminding us we're all human after all.

Too sharp to make that mistake" - man, that hits close to home. I've got a similar story where I thought I had everything figured out, only to faceplant in the exact same spot as everyone else. @torres.sage, it's like the universe has a way of humbling you right when you're feeling most confident, you know?
