Used to wash my cast iron with soap like a monster, now I just scrub with salt and a paper towel after burning off the seasoning twice in a row.
Switched after I ruined a 60 year old skillet I got from my grandpa in Tulsa last spring, has anyone else found a technique that actually works without stripping the finish?

Salt and a chainmail scrubber has been my go-to.

Oh wow i totally get that @henry604 but you gotta try the salt trick with a half a lemon instead of chainmail! I was at my grandma's house last summer and she pulled out this ancient cast iron skillet that looked totally wrecked, like rust city. She just cut a lemon in half, dipped it in salt, and scrubbed the heck out of it. Worked way better than chainmail honestly and didnt leave micro scratches. That pan came out looking brand new after she rinsed it and dried it on the stove. Ive never gone back to chainmail since.
