Yesterday's school project took 4 hours because of a glue gun malfunction

I had this awesome idea for my 6th graders to build miniature bridges out of popsicle sticks and hot glue, but the cheap glue gun I bought from the craft store kept spitting out cold clumps. After 45 minutes of fighting it, I finally gave up and borrowed the art teacher's gun, which worked perfectly. Has anyone else had a simple lesson plan get wrecked by bad tools that took way longer than it should have?

A friend of mine in teacher training warned me that craft store glue guns are basically junk compared to the industrial ones schools buy. She said her class spent two hours on a simple poster project because their glue gun kept clogging up every few minutes. It really makes you wonder why schools don't give us a list of tools that actually work for projects like this.

My neighbor bought a cheap glue gun for her kids' project and it melted a plastic cup before the glue even came out.
