Appreciation post: those cheap silicone mats I bought on a whim actually saved my baking sheets from rusting

I got a 3-pack for $8 off Amazon last spring after my roommate's cookies kept burning on the bottom, and now 8 months later they still look new and I haven't had to scrub a single pan, so has anyone else found that the no-name version works just as good as the $20 brand ones?

Hell yeah, I was just gonna say the same thing. I grabbed a bunch of those cheap rectangle ones off Amazon for my crew's break room pans and they've held up way better than the name brand stuff I had at home. The thinner ones actually heat up faster so cookies don't burn on the bottom, and I just throw em in the dishwasher with no issues. Only thing I'd watch out for is cutting on them - that's what kills the cheap ones fast, so keep a knife off the surface.

The no-name ones are the best kept secret in kitchen gear honestly. I bought a set of the expensive Silpat brand years ago for my wife and they started peeling at the edges after about a year. Picked up a 6-pack of generic ones from a restaurant supply store for under ten bucks and they've been going strong for three years now. The trick is they all use basically the same fiberglass mesh and silicone, just different thicknesses. The cheaper ones are usually a bit thinner but that actually works better for even heat transfer in my experience. If they ever do wear out you're not out much money to replace them, unlike the fancy brands where you feel like you have to use them forever.

Haven't had that peeling issue with my Silpat ones at all though.
