Can we talk about the time I saw a guy at a yard sale in Tulsa get a full set of wrenches for $5?

He was just chatting with the seller about old cars, and the guy threw them in for almost nothing because he liked the conversation. It made me think being friendly is a better budget tool than just hunting for deals. Do you think building a rapport with sellers is worth the extra time, or is it better to just focus on price?

My social awkwardness has probably cost me a fortune in full-price wrenches.

Honestly, isn't that just finding a deal with extra steps? The rapport got him the low price, so it's still about the final cost. Being friendly is just a smarter way to hunt.

Nah, it's different. My buddy needed a specific car part and called like five places. The last guy, they just clicked, talked about football for ten minutes. That guy dug through his back stock and found a used one he didn't even list online, gave it to him for almost nothing. The price was just a side effect of a real conversation, not the goal.
