Finally fixed that leaky kitchen faucet after 6 evenings of fussing

I spent a whole week trying to stop a slow drip under my sink with three different washers and a borrowed pipe wrench. Turned out the valve seat was corroded and a $12 replacement tool did the job in 10 minutes flat. Has anyone else had a simple fix turn into a multi day headache over something you missed at first?

Did you clean the valve seat before you put the new tool on it? I had the same problem with my bathroom sink and the replacement tool barely helped because there was dried gunk baked onto the seat. Had to soak it in vinegar overnight and scrub it with a small wire brush before the new washer actually seated right. That extra step saved me from having to buy a whole new faucet assembly.

Learned that lesson the hard way myself, @elizabethtaylor - spent an hour wrestling with a drip before realizing I'm basically a plumber who can't read directions.
