Got told my budget spreadsheet was 'too detailed' by a coworker, now I stripped it down to 3 columns
My office manager said I was overthinking it after I spent 2 hours tracking every dime on coffee and snacks. Do you go deep into your spending breakdown or just keep it loose and adjust as you go?

Oh, so you're saying there's a middle ground between "I spent two hours categorizing my coffee budget into 'necessary caffeine' versus 'impulse donut purchase'"? I don't think my brain works that way. I have a spreadsheet that tracks every single subscription, every grocery trip down to the penny, and yes, a separate column for "miscellaneous nonsense I bought at 2am." My husband calls it my "financial anxiety journal." But 3 columns? That's basically just checking your bank balance and hoping for the best. Sounds like your coworker is the type who carries a balance on their credit card and calls it "budgeting.
