My $12 thrift store lamp needed a $4 part, now it works like new

Picked up a solid brass lamp at the St. Vinnie's in Portland for $12 but the socket was shot. Found a replacement socket kit at Ace Hardware for $4 and swapped it out in about 20 minutes with just a screwdriver. Saved myself at least $50 versus buying new, and it looks way better than anything at Target. Anyone else fix up thrift store finds instead of just passing them by?

Haven't you always skipped broken stuff at thrift stores too? Yeah, me too, but this makes me want to try it.

Aw man, that's awesome! I did the same thing with an old floor lamp last year, just needed a new cord and switch, cost me like six bucks and now it's my favorite thing in the living room. There's something so satisfying about fixing it yourself, right?
