My grocery bill dropped $40 a week after I stopped buying brand name eggs
I used to grab whatever eggs were in front at the store, usually the $6 pasture raised ones. Switched to the store brand ones for $3.50 last month and honestly can't taste a difference. Anyone else notice how much just swapping basics saves?

Youre missing the point. Pasture raised eggs actually have better nutrition, more omega 3s and vitamin D. The cheap store eggs come from hens packed in tiny cages eating soy feed, and that difference shows up in the actual yolk color and texture. I tested both side by side for a month and the cheap ones were watery and pale, plus my cholesterol numbers went up on the cheap ones. Paying extra for good eggs is like paying for good gas in your car, it matters more than you think.

Fair enough that you tested them side by side, but it sounds like you were already looking for a reason to justify the price tag. People have been eating regular eggs for decades without running to get their cholesterol checked every month. That whole thing about yolk color being a sign of quality is mostly a marketing thing. Dark yolks just mean the hen ate something with beta carotene, it doesn't automatically make the egg better for you. And comparing eggs to gas in your car is kind of a stretch. Your car doesn't care if you put premium in it, it just runs fine either way.

honestly i used to be team drew on this. i mean i was eating those 99 cent walmart eggs for years and thought anyone paying $6 for eggs was just getting tricked by the label. but i tried pasture raised last month from a local farm in austin and it actually changed my mind. the yolk was so thick it stood up like a golf ball when i cracked it. regular eggs just flatten out and look sad now. i get what drew is saying about marketing but the texture difference alone is real. sometimes you just gotta try something to see what the hype is about.
