My uncle's 'buy the cheapest laptop' advice backfired on my first freelance gig

He swore a 180 dollar Chromebook was enough for editing, but the thing froze on a 2GB video file in Portland last month. Has anyone else had a relative give hardware advice that totally missed the mark?

Wait, did your uncle actually watch you try to edit on that thing, or was he just guessing from some article he read? Because there's a big difference between a laptop that can open a document and one that can handle video files without choking. The real question is, would he have admitted he was wrong if you showed him the frozen screen, or would he have told you to just "work around it"? I'm curious if he's ever actually done any video editing himself, or if he just assumed all laptops are basically the same. Because that's the part that gets me, the confidence in advice that's clearly never been tested.
