Pro tip: stop buying cheap outlet covers for outdoor use
I used to grab the cheapest plastic outlet covers at the hardware store, but after last summer's storm flooded two of them in my backyard, I switched to the metal in-use covers that cost $8 each. The cheap ones crack in the sun and let water in after about 6 months. Has anyone found a brand that holds up better than the Leviton metal ones?

Bought a Leviton one for my buddy's place and it's still holding up fine after two winters.

...and I actually heard from an electrician buddy of mine that the cheap clear plastic ones let in UV light which makes the rubber gaskets harden and crack faster. He swears by the TayMac brand for outdoor use, says they hold up way better than Leviton in direct sun. I picked up a couple TayMac ones last spring and so far no cracking or warping, even after this brutal heatwave we had. They're a few bucks more but if you factor in replacing cheap ones every year, it's probably cheaper in the long run.
