PSA: My $9 jumper cables from a gas station in Tulsa melted on the second jump last Saturday
I was helping a neighbor at 7am and the insulation on the positive clamp went soft and started smoking after maybe 20 seconds of cranking, so now I want to know if anyone has found a sub-$30 set that actually holds up or if we all just need to spend the money once.
That "insulation went soft and started smoking" part is exactly what happened to mine, the cheap ones just use thin wire with barely any copper in it. I grabbed a set from Walmart for around $25, the ones in the black bag with 6 gauge wire, and they have lasted me three winters now with no melting. Spend a little more once and you stop buying new ones every year.
