Serious question, is everyone else's grocery budget actually getting worse or is it just me?

I was talking to my neighbor Linda last Tuesday at the bus stop - she's a retired teacher on a fixed income - and she said she's skipping dinner twice a week now because her $400 monthly food budget just doesn't stretch like it used to. It hit me different because I always figured I was just bad at planning, but hearing her break down her actual receipts made me realize something's off with the prices, not just my habits. Has anyone else noticed their usual shopping list costing way more than it did six months ago without buying anything fancy?

The thing is, you can see this same squeeze everywhere, not just in groceries. My daughter's soccer team had to cancel two away games this season because too many parents couldn't afford the gas money for the drive. The local hardware store by my house stopped stocking the cheap brand of light bulbs and now everything's the expensive LED kind, which is better for the environment but worse for my wallet when I just need a bulb that works. It's like every day another small thing creeps up in price and you're supposed to just accept it. Have you noticed small changes like that adding up too?
