Tried the 'dumpster dive at mid-tier grocery stores' trick and saved like $40 in one trip
I was getting sick of spending $80 a week on produce alone, you know? So I read on a forum that some bakeries and grocery stores toss day-old bread and slightly bruised fruit at specific times. I hit up the Kroger on Grand Avenue around 8pm last Tuesday and walked out with a bag of artisan loaves and a flat of peaches for free, just had to ask the produce guy. Has anyone else tried timing their store visits for markdowns or clearance, or is this just a Midwest thing?

Did you catch if they do it on a specific day of the week? I found my local bakery marks down everything on Wednesdays around 4pm and it's been a game changer for sure.

oh yeah i asked the guy at the counter and he just shrugged and said "whenever we feel like it bro" so no luck on a set day lol. but hey free bread is free bread i'll take whatever day i can get. i once showed up on a tuesday at 3 and got a half off sourdough that was still warm so maybe just roll the dice a few times.
