Booked a hostel kitchen tour instead of a food tour in Lisbon

I was in Lisbon last month and saw this hostel offering a guided walk through the local Mercado da Ribeira with the cook for 5 euros instead of the usual 50 euro food tour. We ended up tasting pastel de nata right from the bakery there and learning which stalls the locals actually use. Has anyone else found hidden gems by booking experiences through hostel bulletin boards?
