Debate: Did paying for Priority Boarding actually backfire on me in Atlanta?

I spent $40 for Priority Boarding on a Delta flight out of Atlanta last month. I figured I'd get on early, grab overhead bin space, and relax. But then I sat there for an extra 20 minutes while everyone else boarded, and that time could have been spent at a gate bar or walking around Terminal A. Has anyone else found Priority Boarding to be a waste, or does it always save you from gate-checking your bag?

You mentioned you sat there for 'an extra 20 minutes while everyone else boarded' - just a heads up, Priority Boarding usually loads before general boarding, so the 20 minutes after you sit down is just normal waiting time before the door closes and pushback. The real win is getting your bag in the bin and not having to check it, which saves you a hassle at the gate if the flight is full. If overhead space isn't tight on your route, then yeah, $40 feels like you're paying to be bored at your seat instead of the bar.

Question whether it's really that serious, @the_dylan. Are people really stressing that hard over 20 minutes of sitting vs standing?
