Finally tried hostel dorms in Prague instead of a private room on a 2 week trip
I always booked private rooms in hostels because I figured the sleep would be better alone. On a trip to Prague last March, the only beds left were in a 6 person dorm for $12 a night. I figured I'd deal with snoring and early risers. Honestly the first night was rough with someone coming in at 2 AM. But by day three I had made friends with three other solo travelers and we ended up splitting a car rental to Cesky Krumlov. Saved me about $80 on the transport alone. Plus one guy knew a hole in the wall spot for trdelnik that was half the tourist price. The whole trip cost me around $450 for two weeks including food. Has anyone else found that dorm rooms actually save you money beyond just the bed price?

I mean yeah, met a guy in a Krakow dorm who ended up being a great lockpicking teacher.

Right, because who needs sleep when you can save eighty bucks and learn where the locals hide the cheap pastries? Sounds like a win to me, even with the 2 AM party crasher.

Had a buddy do this in Barcelona, scored a map of all the 24 hour bakeries and slept on a park bench. Woke up with a seagull trying to steal his croissant, still cheaper than a hotel.
