Hostel vs. couchsurfing in Barcelona last month, hostel won by a mile

I had to choose between a $30 a night hostel in the Gothic Quarter or crashing with a stranger through Couchsurfing. Went with the hostel because I wanted my own locker and a guaranteed shower without awkward small talk. Best call ever, the place had free walking tours and a rooftop bar where I met three other solo travelers. Has anyone else tried Couchsurfing and regretted it?

Regretted it" is putting it mildly. I mean, one guy had literal dirty laundry all over the floor and expected me to sleep on a couch with no cushions. Hostel was definitely the move, especially with that rooftop bar.

And that rooftop bar alone would've made the hostel better than sleeping next to someone's laundry pile, @paul346.
