I called everyone wrong about hostel loyalty cards until I lost $60 in Bangkok

Spent months refusing to buy into those hostel chain membership cards thinking they were a gimmick, but after paying for three separate night stays in Bangkok that would've been half off with the card, I did the math and felt like an idiot. Anyone else stubbornly avoid these things and later regret it?

Track those cards online before buying, some hostels sell fakes that never work.

Bought one of those cards in Vietnam and it turned out to be a folded up receipt with a smiley face drawn on it. Lesson learned, but at least the smiley face was well drawn. Still cheaper than paying full price in Bangkok though.
