My flight got cancelled and I spent 9 hours figuring out a new route
Last Tuesday, my budget flight from Denver got axed right at the gate. I was stuck. The airline's rebooking desk had a line a mile long, so I figured I'd handle it myself on my phone. Big mistake. I spent the next 9 hours straight, glued to my screen, trying to piece together a new trip using points, different airports, and weird bus routes. I finally got a spot on a bus to Colorado Springs, then a connecting flight two days later from there. It cost me an extra $150 for the bus and two nights in a cheap motel I hadn't planned on. The lesson? Have a backup plan ready before you even get to the airport, not after things go wrong. Has anyone else had a cancellation spiral into a multi-day puzzle, and what's your go-to fix?

Honestly, my go-to is just booking a hotel near the airport and letting the airline sort it out the next day. I mean, nine hours on your phone sounds like a nightmare.

Totally agree with you. I tried the phone thing once during a delay and my battery died after like two hours. Hotels are way better, even if you have to pay upfront and get refunded later. At least you get a real bed and a shower instead of just sitting on the floor by an outlet. Honestly, it's the only way to actually rest and not start your trip feeling wrecked.

Wait, they make you pay upfront for the hotel? That’s wild. I always thought the airline covered that right away.
