My sister called my packing style 'a recipe for airport stress'

She was right. I used to pack a huge checked bag for every trip, even a weekend in Portland. I thought it was smart to have everything, but the fees were killing me. She pointed out that I spent over $150 on bag fees alone during our trip to Denver. So I tried her way, just a carry-on for a four day trip. It forced me to plan each outfit and use packing cubes. I was sure I'd hate it, but getting off the plane and walking right past baggage claim felt amazing. What's the one thing you all refuse to pack now to keep it light?

Notice how we overpack for life too.

A friend of mine was just telling me about a study she read. It said people regret what they don't bring on a trip way more than what they do bring. So our brains are wired to overpack just to avoid that feeling of being stuck without something important. Extra shoes might seem silly until you step in a puddle on day one and the other pair is three states away. We're really just playing defense against our own bad memories.
