My worst budget travel day ever was in Nashville last June

Honestly, I thought I was being smart booking a $35 a night hostel off Music Row. Turned out the air conditioning broke at 2am and it was 90 degrees outside. I spent the whole next day sitting in a McDonald's just to cool down and charge my phone. Touring the city was impossible because I was too tired and sweaty. Has anyone else had a cheap stay completely backfire on them?

@phoenix29 yeah that sounds about right. In Nashville I found a motel 6 for not much more.

My buddy booked us a place in New Orleans once for $40 a night. The whole floor had a wet carpet smell and I woke up with mosquito bites all over my legs. We ended up sleeping in the car with the AC running for two hours each night just to get some rest. It was cheaper to just pay for a mid range hotel the next night.

My buddy had a similar thing happen in Miami, paid like $35 a night and the bathroom door was literally just a shower curtain on a rod. They ended up just leaving at midnight and driving home.
