Pro tip: Stay in university dorms during summer break

Heard a guy at the bus stop say he paid $35 a night for a private room at a university dorm in Barcelona last July. Has anyone else tried this during off season?

nah for real tho, that's actually smart af. i stayed in a uni dorm in prague last summer for like 20 euros a night and it was way better than any hostel i've been in.

Man I gotta disagree with you guys on this one. I tried the whole university dorm thing once in Berlin and it was a nightmare. Thin walls, shared bathrooms that were never clean, and a bunch of drunk students partying till 3am. Plus the bed felt like a slab of concrete. For a few bucks more I could have gotten a private room at a hostel with actual peace and quiet. The kitchen was nice but you're still stuck in a building with no air conditioning and rules about visitors and noise. I'd rather pay a little extra and know I can sleep without some kid blasting music next door.

Yo exactly what @gray6 said, Prague dorms are a steal. But I went one step further in Rome, found a university room for $25 a night, and it had a full kitchen so I cooked my own pasta. Way better than dropping cash on overpriced tourist food.
