Spent $60 on a portable camping stove for road trips and it paid for itself in 3 days
I was driving from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon last month and got tired of paying $12 for gas station sandwiches. So I grabbed a little butane stove from Walmart for $60 and started cooking my own meals at rest stops. First day I made eggs and coffee for under $2, compared to $8 at a diner. By day three I had saved over $40 just on breakfast and lunch. The trick is finding quiet spots where you won't bother anyone, and bringing a small pot. Has anyone else used a camping stove on long drives to cut food costs?

Heard butane loses pressure below 32°F, switch to propane for winter trips.

Did you have any trouble with the butane in cold weather? I did a similar setup driving through Colorado and my little stove struggled below freezing, had to switch to a propane canister instead.
