Tried a hostel in Lisbon instead of an Airbnb and saved 300 bucks in a week
I was looking at Airbnbs in Lisbon for a solo trip and they were all 60-80 bucks a night. Then I booked a bed in a well-rated hostel near the city center for 18 euros a night. The hostel had free breakfast and a shared kitchen where I cooked my own dinners. So instead of blowing money on restaurants every night I ate cheap and met people from all over. Has anyone else found hostels beat budget hotels for saving cash on solo trips?

Hostels are the move for solo trips, no question. You can't beat 18 euros a night with free breakfast and a kitchen to cook. Way easier to meet people too compared to sitting alone in an Airbnb.

18 euros a night with free breakfast? Where are you finding these places in 2024? Last hostel I stayed at in Barcelona was 35 euros for just a bunk in a 12-person room. And the "free breakfast" was stale bread and instant coffee. Maybe you're still traveling in Eastern Europe or something?

Man, hard disagree. Hostels can be a nightmare. Shared bathrooms, loud people coming in at 3am, someone stealing your stuff. I'd rather pay for my own space and sleep well. You can find small budget hotels or private rooms for not much more than a hostel bed. Plus cooking in a shared kitchen sounds annoying, not fun.
