Warning about those 'free walking tour' tips in Prague

I joined one thinking it was truly free, but the guide got really aggressive at the end and basically demanded 20 euros per person. It felt super awkward and ruined the vibe. Anyone know a better way to see the city without that pressure?

Got suckered into that same scam last year. I was so flustered I overpaid just to escape, so maybe @david_rivera4 has a point about their dinner. My new plan is just following a free map from the hostel and getting lost on purpose.

Yeah, that "they gotta eat" line is true, but it doesn't make the high-pressure tip thing okay. I read a blog where someone said the guides in these "free" tours are actually contractors who only get paid from tips, so the whole system is set up for that awkward end moment. It explains why they get so pushy, they might not make rent otherwise. It's a broken model that puts all the stress on the tourist.
