Appreciation post: the envelope system finally clicked after 4 months
I kept trying to track every purchase in an app and would just give up by the 2nd week. Last month I switched to literal cash envelopes for groceries and eating out, and I stayed under budget 5 weekends in a row. Has anyone else found that physically handing over cash makes you pause more than tapping a card?

Saw a finance guy on a podcast say cash activates the pain center in your brain, cards don't. That matches my experience, the physical act of counting bills makes every purchase feel way more real. You're basically training yourself to stop and think before you spend, it's like a cheat code for your willpower.
