Cash envelope experiment backfired, now I'm doubting the whole method
I tried the cash envelope system for groceries last month here in Austin, put $400 in envelopes for 4 weeks. Week 1 went great, saved like $30, but by week 3 I was so paranoid about carrying cash that I started ordering takeout just to avoid the ATM trip. The envelopes made me spend MORE, not less, like $460 total. Is it just me, or does anyone else find that physical cash makes you panic-buy while cards keep you honest?

The panic-buy angle is real, cards just feel less risky somehow.
