Heard a neighbor at the hardware store say they saved $800 a year by switching to a 'budget billing' plan for their utilities. Hadn't even thought of that.

Wait, so budget billing doesn't actually save any money? I just assumed it was some kind of discount plan. That's kind of a letdown. I mean, I was getting ready to call my utility company too after reading what andrew639 said. Now I feel like the whole hardware store story is just about predictable bills, not real savings.

My neighbor's budget billing story just convinced me to call my utility company. I guess I'll be the one bragging at the hardware store next year.

Just to be clear, budget billing doesn't actually save you money. It just spreads your yearly cost out evenly so the bill is the same each month.
