Hot take: My cash envelope system backfired after a car repair
I set aside $80 a month in my 'car stuff' envelope, but a flat tire and new battery last week cost $340. I had to take from my grocery money, which messed up my whole plan. Do you think strict category budgets are too rigid for real life surprises?

Ugh, that's why my budget never survives contact with reality.

Yeah the whole "survives contact with reality" thing got me too. I finally gave up on tracking every single coffee and snack and just set a flat "fun money" pile each month. If I blow it all on takeout in week one, that just means no more fun spending til next month. It took some getting used to but now I actually stick to it. What about you, have you tried that kind of envelope system before?

Yeah, I started rounding up every expense in my budget. That twenty dollar lunch becomes thirty, so when it's actually twenty-two I'm already covered. What's your biggest budget killer?
