Question about comparing store brand beans to name brand coffee
I finally did a side-by-side test last week. I bought a bag of the store brand ground coffee for $4.99 and a can of Folgers for $7.49 at my local Kroger. Made two cups exactly the same way and honestly, I couldn't tell much difference in taste. The store brand was a little weaker but not enough to justify spending 50% more. Has anyone else found a store brand item that really holds up against the big names?

Store brand coffee is usually from the same roaster as the name brand just packaged different. Why pay extra for the same beans in a fancy can? That extra two bucks adds up quick if you drink coffee every day.

fr that's exactly it. my buddy worked at a roasting plant in ohio and he said they literally fill store brand bags and name brand cans on the same line just different labels. big facts right there. saved myself like $60 a year just by switching to the kroger brand for my morning brew.

Why is it that with so many things we buy, the store brand is just as good? I noticed the same thing with my oatmeal, the store brand tastes the same as the Quaker stuff but costs almost half. It's like we are paying for a name on a box more than the actual product inside. Grocery stores know most people just grab what they recognize without thinking. Once you start looking closer, you see this pattern everywhere with all sorts of everyday items. It really makes you wonder what else we are overpaying for just because of a label.
