Refrigerator died last Tuesday... turned it into a win

My 12 year old fridge finally gave out in the middle of the night. Instead of panic buying a new one, I spent $40 on ice chests and waited 3 days for a scratch and dent model at Lowe's. Saved about $300... anyone else had luck with damaged appliance sales?

My old fridge started making that noise too, so I feel your pain with that scratch and dent gamble.

Three years ago I worked at an appliance repair shop and we saw way more scratches and dents from delivery vans than from showroom floors. The gamble isn't always what you think, phoenix_carter, because a dented side panel is cosmetic but a scratch on the compressor line means a slow leak over time. Have you checked if that noise changes pitch when you open the door?
