Showerthought: I realized people skip the 'fun money' line in their budget and then feel broke.

They make a tight plan for bills and savings, but when a friend asks for coffee or they want a new book, they feel guilty and think they failed. I started putting $40 a month in a separate envelope for that stuff, and now I don't stress about small treats. Anyone else find a way to make room for little joys without wrecking the plan?

Honestly, it's just forty bucks. The whole envelope thing seems like extra work for a problem that isn't really a problem. If a coffee wrecks your budget, you've got bigger issues to fix first.

Yeah, the "bigger issues" part is what gets me. It's not about the coffee itself, it's about the habit. Letting small leaks slide is how you end up with a sinking ship.

I mean, adam517 is right about the habit thing. It's crazy how many people let the small stuff add up without even noticing.
