Spent $80 on a meal prep container set and it paid for itself in 3 weeks

I was throwing away so much money on takeout at lunch because I never had anything ready. Finally bought a set of 10 glass containers from a home goods store near my office. Now I cook double portions at dinner and pack the leftovers for the next day. It cut my weekly food spending from like $60 to $20. Has anyone else noticed their grocery bill going up but takeout costs going way down with meal prep?

Feel that, same thing happened to me a few times. It's pretty discouraging when good intentions go to waste like that.

I mean, I get where you're coming from, but I actually think it depends on your habits. I tried the same thing and ended up with a fridge full of containers I forgot about until they got moldy (gross, I know). I feel like the real savings come from actually sticking to it, not just buying the containers.

oh yeah totally, what really helped me was starting super small. instead of doing a whole big meal prep day, I just started cooking one extra portion of whatever I was already making for dinner. so like if I made pasta, I'd just boil a little more and pack it up right away before I even sat down to eat. that way I didn't have to remember to do anything later. it's not nearly as impressive as those people who prep 20 meals at once on Sunday but it actually worked for me because I didn't burn out.
