The parking garage audit that paid off after 4 months
I kept getting surprised by a $42 charge on my credit card every month and finally sat down to trace it. Turns out it was a monthly parking pass I signed up for back in May for a garage near my old office, but I switched jobs in July and totally forgot about it. I called the garage this morning, explained the situation, and they refunded the last two months, which was $84 back in my pocket. Then I cancelled the pass for good, so that's $42 a month I'm not bleeding anymore. It took me about 20 minutes on hold and a quick chat with their billing lady, honestly worth it. Anyone else have a forgotten subscription or pass that snuck up on them for way too long?

Honestly, I gotta push back on this one. That $42 a month was doing you a favor by forcing you to actually look at your statements. Now that it's gone, what's stopping you from just letting a different charge slide for six months without noticing? You got $84 back, sure, but that's basically a consolation prize for being careless with your own money in the first place. Plus, the garage probably counted on people like you forgetting, so now they're just gonna find some other way to nickel and dime you, maybe a hidden fee or a rate hike on the next guy.
