My friend said bullet journals are just fancy to-do lists and I had to disagree

We were at a coffee shop in Austin and she saw my journal open to my monthly mood tracker. She said it looked like a lot of work for a simple list. I explained it's more about seeing patterns and planning my time, not just tasks. It got me thinking about how people see the system differently. Do you use yours more for planning or for looking back at your habits?

My cousin said the same thing last year. I showed her my old journal from 2022. The habit tracker proved my sleep was awful before a big trip. It wasn't a to do list. It was proof. Now I use mine mostly to look back. The planning part is just the first step for me. The real value is seeing the patterns a month later.

Totally get that. The looking back part is the whole point for me too. It's like having actual data on your own life instead of just guessing how things were going. My own journal showed me I was way more stressed on weeks I skipped the gym. You can't argue with your own handwriting.
