Saw something wild at the craft store in Portland
I was at Scrap PDX last week looking for some washi tape and saw a whole display of bullet journal kits for $40 each. They had pre-made monthly spreads, stickers, the works. Looked pretty but it felt like buying a paint-by-numbers kit. Isn't the whole point to make a system that works for your own messy brain? Has anyone else felt like the hobby is getting too packaged and perfect?

That "paint-by-numbers" comparison is spot on. The whole appeal was hacking together a planner from a blank notebook. Now it's just another thing to buy.

Totally get that "hacking together a planner" feeling. I felt the same way when everything got so fancy. What worked for me was going back to a simple notebook and just using three colored pens for different tasks. It keeps that DIY spirit alive without needing to buy a whole system. The less stuff I have to buy, the more I actually get done.
