The comment that changed my whole tracker setup

I used to make these huge elaborate habit trackers with 30 boxes and 12 colors. My coworker glanced at my notebook during lunch and said, you're tracking too much stuff, that's why you quit by February. They were right. I cut it down to 3 habits max per month and now I actually finish the whole page. Does anyone else get carried away with the layout and forget the point is just showing up? What's the most useful thing you've trimmed from your journal?

I mean, the three habit thing is solid advice, but there's a small catch. I found that the real problem wasn't the number of boxes, it was that I was treating every single day like it had to be perfect. So even with just three habits, I'd still quit if I missed a Tuesday. What actually helped me was cutting out the color coding and the fancy layout entirely, not just the count. Now I use a simple checkmark system, one line per habit, and I don't even fill in the date if I miss a day. It sounds dumb, but that little change made it way easier to just get back on track instead of starting a whole new page.
