Why does nobody talk about migrating notes in your 60s?

My mom, she's 63, started a bujo last January and hit the index page limit last week, so she asked me how to move stuff over without losing the thread. I realized I've been doing rapid logging for 5 years and never thought about how hard a full migration is when your eyesight and hands aren't what they were. Has anyone else helped an older relative with their first big migration, or is it just us?

Did you ever try breaking the old book into sections for her instead of doing one big move? Like, take photos of the index pages on her phone so she can flip through those without squinting at tiny handwriting, then just copy the must-keep lists onto fresh paper in bigger marker. My dad hit the same wall with his garden journal, and we found that using a binder with page protectors made the next migration way easier, just slide old pages out and new ones in. Also, those little sticky tabs in bright colors saved his eyes more than anything, he could find stuff by color instead of reading every line. Might be worth setting her up with a rolling index too, where she numbers pages in batches of 20, so she never hits a hard limit again.

Have you heard about that idea where you just scan the old pages and keep them as a separate reference book instead of trying to copy everything? I read about someone doing that for their grandma with a recipe binder, and it sounded way less stressful than re-writing pages that are already good. The sticky tab trick the other person mentioned is genius too, my mom does that with her pill organizer now and it helps her find stuff in her bujo without reading every tiny word. The rolling index thing is solid advice, I wish I'd set my own up that way when I started. I think the real issue is that nobody plans for how their system changes as they get older, so it's always a scramble when the first limit hits. Did your mom end up keeping the same layout or did you have to tweak the spacing and font size for her?
