A hiring manager in Denver told me to take the salary number off my resume, and I think he's dead wrong
I was at a job fair in Denver last week and this guy running a booth for a staffing company told me to delete every dollar amount from my resume because it boxes you in. I pushed back and said numbers are the only proof I have that I actually did something, and he just shrugged and said most managers lowball you once they see a figure. That advice might work for him, but I have gotten two interviews in the past month specifically because my resume showed I cut a $60,000 supply budget down to $42,000. If you hide what you did, you are just another list of job duties like everybody else. Has anyone actually gotten a better offer by keeping the numbers off, or is this just something recruiters say to make their own job easier?
Did your friend ever try leaving the numbers on and still got lowballed anyway? A buddy of mine took the numbers off his resume and got way more callbacks, but then they'd toss out some low offer at the end since he had nothing to point to. Sounds like the real fix is keeping the numbers and just not saying yes to the first thing they throw at you.
