Debate: Did I mess up by not quitting my job sooner after a bad boss moment?
I was at my desk in a finance firm in Denver last March. My manager, Steve, yelled at me in front of the whole team for a typo in a report. I froze and apologized, stayed quiet for two more months, then quit without a backup plan. Now I wonder if I should have walked out that day or stuck it out to find a new job first. What would you do in that spot, call it out then and there or play it safe?

Man, I once got chewed out for putting a coffee cup on a financial report and honestly I deserve worse for that one. But yeah, I get the freezing up part I did that too and then spent three months sending passive aggressive emails to myself. In your spot I probably would have stuck it out and lined something else up first but only because I'm too lazy to update my resume on short notice. You took the hard road and now you're out which is more than most people do so don't beat yourself up too much.

Three different times I walked out of jobs with zero backup plan and the first one I ended up scraping by on ramen for like two months... it wasn't pretty but I never regretted it for a second. The worst part was always those first few weeks of panic where my brain just kept replaying the old office noises and the smell of the break room coffee. But once you get past that hump it's like a weight lifts off your shoulders and you actually start sleeping better even if you're broke. You're right that sticking it out is the smart play on paper but sometimes you just gotta rip the bandaid off or you'll waste another year being miserable.
