Had a chat with my boss yesterday and it made me question my whole career path

So my manager pulled me aside after our weekly meeting and said I've been doing great on the technical side but my communication skills are holding me back from promotions. She mentioned that I've missed 3 chances for team lead roles because I can't explain things clearly in meetings. I've been at this company for 6 years and never thought about soft skills being that important. Has anyone else had a boss drop a truth bomb on them out of nowhere?
