My old boss in Dallas told me to never take a job for the money, and I think that advice is honestly terrible
I know everyone loves saying this one, but I had a manager at a logistics company in Dallas about 8 years ago who pulled me into his office during my review and said, 'Never chase a paycheck, chase the work.' At the time I nodded along because he was signing my checks, but looking back it bugs me. He was making around $140k with a corner office and a pension, and I was making $41k doing the same job with a different title. Easy to say don't chase money when you already caught it, right? Two years later I left for a gig that paid $22k more and it fixed a lot of stress in my life, like finally getting off my parents' phone plan. I get that loving your job matters, but rent and groceries don't care about how fulfilled you feel on a Tuesday. Maybe I'm wrong here, but has anyone else gotten this advice from someone who was already set up and felt like it didn't apply to you at all?
