My old boss's 'just google it' advice ruined my first week in Portland

He told me to never ask senior devs anything and just search Stack Overflow. I spent 5 days stuck on a build config issue that a 30 second chat with the team lead solved. It turns out asking the right person saves way more time than trying to be self-sufficient. Anyone else get this 'figure it out yourself' advice that backfired?
