My old manager pushed me to take the $8k pay cut for the "growth role" and I'm still mad about it 2 years later
Back in early 2023 my manager at the time pulled me into a meeting and pushed hard for me to leave my $62k analyst job for a "growth role" on another team that paid $54k. She kept saying the title and the exposure would pay off within a year. I took it because I was 24 and scared of saying no. Fast forward 2 years and I'm making $58k while the two people who stayed on my old team are at $71k and $74k. The "growth" was mostly me doing calendar invites and slide decks for a director who left after 6 months. I've been applying for 4 months now and every recruiter asks why I took a pay cut with no title bump to show for it. Has anyone else gotten talked into a "career move" that set them back this far?
