That retired project manager in Phoenix who told me your resume is just a story, not a list of jobs

He said if I can't make my career sound like a story someone wants to finish, I'm just wasting paper, and that one line made me rewrite my whole resume in 20 minutes.

Oh boy, that line hit me right in the gut. I spent years thinking my resume was just a boring list of tasks I did, like a grocery receipt nobody wants to read. Then I realized my best stories are the ones where I embarrass myself, like the time I accidentally emailed the whole company about a party I wasn't invited to. Once I started framing that mishap as a lesson in paying attention to details, suddenly my coworkers wanted to hear more. It's funny how a little vulnerability can make a career sound real instead of like a robot wrote it. That Phoenix guy really knew what he was talking about.

Buddy of mine did the same thing. Sent a complaint about his boss to the whole department by accident. CC instead of BCC. Real bad. But he owned it in his next interview. Said it taught him to slow down and double check everything. Landed the job too.
